I served my apprenticeship as a Plater/Shipwright in Scotts Shipyard on the west coast of Scotland from 1968 to 1972.
I came to Canada on contract with Canron in 1974. Upon completion of contract, I worked in various shipyards in the Lower Mainland; Belaire Shipyard in North Vancouver, Allied, B.C. Marine, West Coast Salvage, Burrard’s and Key Marine.
In 1988, I worked in the maintenance department of Terminal City Iron Works until its closure in 1999. I then joined Meridian Marine as Foreman responsible for the Steelworks, New Construction and Repair aspects of the business.
